The project features a one story, 21,000 sf addition to the existing Illinois Regional Cancer Center, located on the Kishwaukee hospital campus in Dekalb, Illinois. The addition includes space for PET/CT, laboratory services, imaging center, patient Services, and radiology. Renovations to the existing building include a new entry canopy along with a two-story lobby. Exterior improvements included additional surface parking, site utilities and a healing garden. The multi-phase project was completed over 18 months.
Minimizing Disruption to Ongoing Campus Operations
During this project, Power’s work zones were located directly adjacent to an active, functioning cancer center. Construction crews employed a variety of proven protocols to minimize our effect on hospital operations:
- a temporary segregated entry
- staff shuttle service
- patient valet parking
- scheduled off-hour utility transfers
- special procedures to mitigate noise and dust
- temporary partitions separating construction activity
- interim life safety measures
- negative air pressurization
- sealed trash enclosures
Most importantly, good communication between our superintendent and the oncology department was essential.
