Home to pre- and post-doctoral trainees, The Gordon Center for Integrative Sciences was built to expand research and teaching capabilities across the University of Chicago. The center is dedicated to biological and physical sciences.
Constructed with six-story steel columns to mirror the iconic Cobb Gate building, the center establishes a sense of connectedness with an open breezeway along the building's exterior and shimmering glass panes for natural light to transfer into the space.
Laboratories, classrooms, offices, vibration and light sensitive labs, and a 24,000 sf vivarium are located two floors below-grade. The vivarium space includes an isolation suite, X-ray processing room, molecular modeling center, fluorescence microscopy suite, labs for flow cytometry and radioisotopes, crystallography suite, and electronics shop.
